General Questions

What Size Pool Heat Pump Do I Need?
+

Choosing the correct pool heat pump size is essential for achieving efficient heating performance and low running costs. The ideal heat pump size depends on several factors, including your pool dimensions, pool surface area, location, desired swimming temperature, seasonal usage, and whether a pool cover is used.

Our team will assess your requirements and recommend the most suitable full inverter pool heat pump for your pool and lifestyle.

How Long Does It Take to Heat a Pool?
+

The time required to heat a pool depends on several factors, including:

  • Pool size and water volume
  • Starting water temperature
  • Desired swimming temperature
  • Outdoor air temperature
  • Wind exposure
  • Whether a pool cover is used
  • Heat pump capacity

Under favourable conditions, many pools can achieve a temperature increase of approximately 0.5°C to 1.0°C per hour with a correctly sized system. Once the desired temperature is reached, the heat pump ramps down then when loss of temperature exceeds .5 degrees of set temperature it will ramp back up to maintain consistent water temperatures while minimising energy consumption.

How Energy-Efficient Are Austek Pool Heat Pumps?
+

Austek pool heat pumps are designed for exceptional energy efficiency using advanced full inverter technology. By automatically adjusting compressor and fan speeds to match heating demand, inverter systems reduce energy consumption while maintaining consistent pool temperatures and quieter operation.

Compared to traditional electric heating systems, a modern inverter pool heat pump will significantly reduce pool heating running costs.

Can Austek heat pumps operate in colder weather?
+

Yes.

Austek pool heat pumps are designed to perform efficiently across a wide range of Australian climate conditions, including cooler weather.

Featuring intelligent inverter controls and automatic defrost functionality, Austek systems can continue operating in ambient temperatures as low as -10°C, helping maintain comfortable swimming temperatures throughout extended swimming seasons.

How much maintenance do Austek heat pumps require?
+

Routine maintenance is generally minimal and may include cleaning filters, ensuring proper airflow, and keeping the system free from debris.

How Long Does a Pool Heat Pump Last?
+

A quality pool heat pump is designed to provide many years of reliable service. With proper installation, routine maintenance, and correct water chemistry management, Austek pool heat pumps can typically provide 15 years or more of dependable performance, making them a smart long-term investment for your pool.

Our heat pumps are built using durable components and corrosion-resistant materials specifically selected for Australian conditions.

What is the expected lifespan of an Austek heat pump?
+

Typically 15 years or longer

Can I Use a Pool Heat Pump With Salt Water?
+

Yes.

All Austek pool heat pumps feature premium titanium heat exchangers, making them suitable for use with:

  • Saltwater pools
  • Mineral pools
  • Freshwater pools
  • Chlorinated pools

Titanium heat exchangers offer superior corrosion resistance, ensuring long-lasting performance in saltwater, mineral, and traditional chlorinated pools.

Installation & Efficiency

Is a Pool Cover Important?
+

Absolutely.

A pool cover is one of the most effective ways to improve heating efficiency and reduce operating costs. Without a cover, a significant amount of heat can be lost through evaporation, particularly overnight. A quality pool cover helps retain heat, reduce energy consumption, improve heat pump performance, and maintain more consistent water temperatures.

In many cases, using a pool cover can also reduce the heat pump capacity required for your pool.

How Much Space Is Required Around a Pool Heat Pump?
+

For optimal performance, every pool heat pump requires adequate airflow around the unit.
Sufficient clearance should be maintained around the front, rear, and sides of the heat pump to allow unrestricted air movement and efficient operation.

Specific clearance requirements vary between models and can be found in the installation manual. If you're unsure about placement, the Austek team will help determine the ideal installation location for your pool heating system.

Is professional installation required?
+

we have a network of installers that we can put you in touch with

Can I Use Solar Pool Heating and a Pool Heat Pump Together?
+

Yes.

Solar pool heating and a pool heat pump can work together to provide greater flexibility and more consistent swimming temperatures throughout the year.

While solar heating can perform exceptionally well during sunny conditions, its effectiveness depends on available sunlight and weather conditions. A pool heat pump provides reliable heating regardless of cloud cover,  maintaining your desired water temperature whenever additional heating is required. Combining solar heating with a pool heat pump can help maximise swimming comfort throughout the season while providing dependable heating when solar conditions are less favourable.
